Waterkeeper Alliance Writes about Bion’s Process in their New Guide

February 1st, 2005

Waterkeeper Alliance, whose President is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is an environmental organization consisting of 124 local Waterkeeper organizations whose charters are to “defend everyone’s right to clean water.” They recently received a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to “provide a detailed introduction to a number of alternative animal manure treatment technologies for swine, dairy and beef operations.”

Robert Kennedy had previously visited a Bion facility, but for the purpose of this EPA funded effort, Waterkeeper Alliance’s Janelle Hope Robbbins, visited Bion’s installation at the DeVries Dairy in Texas. Waterkeeper’s resulting publication authored by Robbins in February 2005 is titled Understanding Alternative Technologies for Animal Waste Treatment – A Citizen’s Guide to Manure Treatment Technologies.

While the report was deliberate in not rating nor quantifying the results from the various technologies, there is a whole page with color photos describing Bion’s DeVries installation. There is also a photo of parts of the installation on the cover, and photos and descriptions of aspects of the process are in the Acknowledgements and six other pages of the report.

The EPA grant not only funded the creation of the report but its printing and distribution as well. To get a copy of the report, go to www.waterkeeper.org
